A Brief Introduction to Suzhou Institute of Trade & Commerce

Suzhou Institute of Trade& Commerce (SITC) is a full-time public institution with the approval of the Ministry of Education of PRC and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. The former two schools which merged respectively into SITC in 2003 were Suzhou Commercial School and Suzhou Silk School with over 40 years’ educational experience.

The campus is located in the north of Suzhou International Education Park by the beautiful Lake Shi Hu Scenic Region, covering an area of 62 hectares with a floor space of 290,000 square metres. There are more than 12 Training Centers and 20 well equipped laboratories, 12 multi-media rooms with more than 100 sets of teaching and training equipment and at least 2000 computers.

SITC has 7 departments: Mechanical &Electrical Engineering Department, Trade &Economics Department, Business Management Department, Silk Engineering Department, Fashion Design & Art Department, Tourism Management Department, Information Technology Department and School of International Education , offering over 60 diploma programs and has developed into a “management and engineering highlighted, business and service specialized” multi-disciplinary institution. There are more than 8,000 students and over 500 staff and faculty member.

STIC has always been striving to the ideals of “Market-Oriented, Excellence in Disciplines, Competence-Based” and providing quality education and training to equip our graduates to contribute to the technological, economic and social development of the region and the nation. Our qualified graduates are fully welcomed by the enterprises. The employment rates, which have been verified by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, are over 99% and SITC was assessed by the Ministry of Labour as “Jiangsu Province Employment Training Center”.

SITC takes an active part in international academic exchange and has established cooperative relationships with over 10 universities and institutions in Singapore , UK , France, Denmark etc. There is School of International Education with about 700 students on campus in charge of the four joint venture programs: International Trade, Business Administration, Finance and Hospitality.

With the pioneering spirit and its adherence to the motto “Educating for Morality, Training for Capability”, the leading group will steer staff and students towards a brighter future in which SITC takes its place as the leading institute in Jiangsu, reputable throughout China and influential abroad.

A Brief Introduction of SIE

School of International EducationSIE is one of the teaching and managing departments of SITC. It consists of 3 divisions, that is General Affairs Division, Teaching Affairs Division, Students Affairs Division & Youth League Branch. General Affairs Division is in charge of administrative management of SIE as well as routine management of foreign teachers. Teaching Affairs Division is in charge of the quality supervision and control of both local and foreign courses. Students Affairs Division is in charge of students’ daily management and employment.

There are 11 local staffs as well as 10 full-time foreign teachers from U.S.A, Canada , France , etc, in SIE. School of International Education is now operating two joint education programs in 6 majors, international business, financial management, business management, hotel management, marketing and accounting. We have established cooperation relationship with several foreign colleges and universities, including Hastings College(U.K), Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology( Canada ), Lawrence Technological University (U.S.A), Rochester Institute of Technology (U.S.A),Centennial College of Canada, Seneca College of Applied Arts & Technology( Canada ),etc, to provide students with opportunities on studying abroad.

Speciality Introduction

This speciality includes 7 professional basic courses, 13 public selective courses, 12 Major Required Courses, 33 weeks of training practice. There are altogether 2480 periods of required courses, equal to 155 credits. Credits are caculated on a 2480/16 basis, which means students can get 1 credit after having learnt 16 periods.
